Your Star Child

by Debbie Sellwood

A new little life, lots of budding promise, but as children do not come with instruction manuals, what can you expect from your new addition? As parents how can we be sure that we are doing right for our children, how best can we guide and encourage them? Understanding children from an Astrological perspective enables us as parents to identify talents and skills which can be cultivated, and helps us to be realistic in our expectations of our children. By nurturing who they truly are, we can help our little souls to follow their paths, unfold their own special gifts and manifest their greatest potential.

The following descriptions are based on the typical qualities of each Sun sign, but always remember, the Sun sign is modified by other planetary factors at the time of birth.

Fire Signs

Children born in Fire signs are straightforward and direct, with strong spirits they seem to radiate energy and exude enthusiasm.

Aries (March 21st - April 20)

After you have given birth to your Aries baby, take full advantage of every opportunity to rest because once this child becomes mobile you won't get much chance! Energetic, active and unable to sit calmly for long periods, it is in their nature to initiate or instigate, so they are likely to be early in reaching all the usual landmarks such as walking and talking. These children need to forge ahead, break new ground and lead the way. It is a good plan to have some activities organized to keep them occupied, otherwise they can become frustrated or irritable. Balancing this with some quieter moments may well be beneficial.

Aries children like to be taken notice of. They are not going to appreciate it too much if they have to share the limelight (or their toys for that matter) with another sibling and careful preparation is required to prepare them for the arrival of a new baby in the family. Appeal to their leadership qualities, telling them how much their guidance and direction will be appreciated as an older brother or sister. Most of all show them how much they are loved and valued because despite their outward appearance of bravado, this little one can have a fragile ego especially if they do not feel loved or appreciated.

This child will win you over with their warm hearted and affectionate approach but be warned, they can sorely try your patience as they usually insist on getting their own way and they do not expect to wait for anything! Stand your ground and don't give into this little Ram even when they become angry, create a fuss or stamp their little hooves in temper. They need firm but gentle handling and strong rules to guide them or they will quite easily be the ones calling the tune.

Subtly mention the skills or merits of other well-behaved children when you need your child to comply with your wishes. Not wanting to be outdone by others motivates their competitive nature into action and spurs them into performing a task better than anyone else. Aries responds to a challenge, so make the chores, tasks or homework sound challenging and you are on to a winner.

It is helpful if you can guide this child to appreciate just how their actions can affect other children. Aries youngsters are usually forthright and direct but this can mean that fulfillment of their own needs usually comes first. Teaching these children to understand how others feel can curb any selfishness and temper their insistence to have their own way. They will probably still manage to get what they want but it maybe achieved less forcibly and with more consideration for others.

As a parent of an Aries child it is wise to anticipate your child's intentions and movements, as this little one can be a veritable dynamo. Intent on achieving their objectives, the young Arian tends to rush in without care or thought of the consequences. Not deterred after the odd bump or two, Aries juniors will brush themselves off and head for the next adventure. It may take some considerable parental influence before they see the merits of reflecting before acting.

Leo (July 23rd - August 23rd)

A little Leo can be a ray of sunshine. Uplifting and inspiring those around them, expect to be enchanted by their enthusiastic, affectionate and generous natures. Little Leos have warm hearts but hot heads so when things are not going their way they are quite likely to give out several mighty Lion roars. Be prepared for some passionate exhibitions from time to time, but whatever you do, do not offend your child's deep sense of pride. The Leo heart is vulnerable and hurts to their sense of self-esteem wound them greatly. If they do become too full of themselves, put it down to high spirits and let them down gradually without demoralising them.

The Leo personality is not opposed to being treated like royalty and even whilst young this child has a sense of pride and an innate understanding of their own importance. Sometimes this is overestimated to the extent that they have a tendency to exaggerate or behave dramatically in order to draw attention to themselves. School productions and amateur dramatics can be an excellent avenue in which they can release their emotions and channel their energies in a healthy way. They sparkle when amusing others and love being the centre of attention, especially when showered with compliments and accolades. The more timid Leo does not appreciate being in the limelight but still needs lots of affection, attention and appreciation from loved ones.

Among the usual parental skills, the job of social secretary is a must as a parent of this seasoned party-goer. Occupy these youngsters with games, sports, parties and enjoyment because this child loves to have fun. You may need to be imaginative with household tasks as some noble little Leos may feel that domestic duties are beneath them. Charm them into believing that tidying their room requires organisation and responsibility and this will appeal to their sense of authority. In the same vein, discipline is hard for them to accept when it comes in the form of instruction or demand. They take more kindly to a build up of flattery and affection before you lay down the law, so show them respect and you will achieve far more. The trouble is that this tactic also works for others whose intentions may not be in your child's best interest. Teach your child not to be taken in by others whose smooth words and sweet talk may not necessarily be to their advantage.

It is noticeable that in a group of children, the Leo is usually doing the organizing, bossing the others around or taking the lead. Naturally drawn to leadership positions, Leos can have a charismatic and inspiring effect on others. Do encourage these children to incorporate humility and respect for others rather than becoming too carried away with a sense of their own superiority. Creative people, Leos need to produce or express themselves in some way, although this may not necessarily be artistic. A school environment where they can achieve this and where they receive lots of praise for their efforts and are recognized for who they are is ideal.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 22nd)

Adventure should be this child's middle name. Especially when young, their fearless straightforward approach can cause them to get into all sorts of escapades. Acting on impulse, this child wants to embrace every opportunity and experience everything going, so try to be not far behind them because if something is going to happen it will happen to them! Occupy these children with outdoor life, sporting activities and trips because they need movement, stimulus and plenty of physical activity. Eager to experience as much as they can, this child easily adapts to new situations or circumstances but their restless nature tends to make them easily bored.

Generally the Sagittarian child will be cheerful, optimistic, good-humored and full of life. Outgoing and gregarious, they enjoy joviality and fooling around. However, at times they can take life or themselves very seriously, and it can be typical for them to smile and clown their way through things even when they are crying inside. Parents who appreciate this can encourage them to communicate their worries more easily and help them to take themselves more lightly.

The Sagittarian personality is not known for tact or diplomacy, so expect your little Sagittarian to bluntly tell you just how it is or to blurt out the brutal truth at the most inopportune or embarrassing moment. Although very endearing whilst young, as they mature and start to develop social skills it is helpful to point out that truth and honesty can always be blended with a little diplomacy and delicacy.

Active physically and mentally, these children have lively minds and are usually eager to learn as long as they are in a school environment that is not too rigid and provides them with plenty of opportunities for exploration. Intellectually they need stimulation and are at their best with schedules that include diversity and movement rather than monotonous routines. Not usually bothered by the finer points, they often need assistance to focus their minds on the sometimes necessary minutiae in life rather than concentrating on just the bigger picture. The young Sagittarian is naturally inquisitive, and with so many interests firing their curiosity, their tendency is to become involved with too many things at once. In spreading themselves too thin they can become scattered, lose interest and give up, which results in several incomplete ventures or the inability to master any one thing properly. Help them to develop the necessary discipline and patience to see things through, resulting in less frustration and more productivity.

Parents of Sagittarian children need to be open-minded because these children have such questioning minds that they are quite likely to pursue different ideologies and beliefs to those of their parents. Sagittarius is a natural teacher and this child will not be beyond teaching parents a thing or two, if they are prepared to listen to their ideas and philosophies.

Whilst one would not wish to dampen the natural Sagittarian enthusiasm it may be necessary at times to harness them in a bit and explain the merits of a bit of forethought and sustained energy. Not wishing to be tied down with chores or homework they can easily duck out of their responsibilities. If neither persuasion nor appealing to their logic motivates them, then employ some sort of enticement because the typical Sagittarian will 'do it later' or put something aside for another time. In other words it never gets done. If you have to resort to a bit of bribery, do keep to your word though; this child is usually keen on justice and hot on truth and will not let you get away without fulfilling your word.

Earth Signs

Children born in Earth signs are steady and patient, motivated by practicalities, and have determined and responsible natures.

Taurus (April 20th - May 21st)

Quiet and self contained, the typical Taurean child dislikes being the centre of attention. Content as long as their physical needs are attended to, they are usually satisfied babies. A stable routine together with a solid, reliable home base is essential, as security is very important to them. Avoid any unnecessary upheavals or disruptions, as they do not take easily to alterations in their schedules or major change on any level. If change is inevitable then prepare them beforehand, rather than springing it upon them. They are generally calm and composed and take things in their stride; it takes a lot to rile them, but they can react strongly when they are forced, pushed or bullied into something they feel unprepared for. Generally they function best when they are surrounded by peaceful and harmonious conditions, only tending to get upset when involved in conflicts, arguments and tension.

Preferring to do things their own way, this little one can be incredibly stubborn and totally unmovable if they so desire. Use persuasion or diplomacy all you want, but if they do not want to do something they become more stuck-in and resistant. Essentially a practical person, if you want your little bull to comply with your wishes, then try appealing to their common sense.

Down to earth, with a strong grasp of the physical world, they can perhaps at times benefit from a bit of spontaneity and frivolity so they do not become too slavish to routine. They will probably enjoy music, drawing or painting and have a good sense of colour and form, which can manifest as either artistic appreciation or a creative talent.

Typically conscientious, they hate to be unprepared or for an occasion or occurrence such as a school test. They are dependable and meticulous and can be relied upon to finish the job, complete a project or see through an activity even when others have lost interest. Happiest when they know what is expected of them and where they stand, their energy is usually stable and enduring. They don't rush into things without due consideration and prefer to work slowly, without pressure, plodding on methodically but purposefully until they achieve what they set out to do. The type of school environment where they are able to work at this pace generally suits them best.

Virgo (August 23rd - September 23rd)

Gentle, mild mannered, willing and considerate, these children are not usually difficult or hard to discipline. With self-sufficient natures, they are often quiet and introspective, spending a lot of time reading or quietly amusing themselves. Although this child is very capable, their modest manner and lack of self-belief means that they do not always think so highly of their own abilities. Often hard on themselves, the Virgo youngsters can fear they are inadequate, which leads them to compensate by trying harder than they need. In fact, Virgos both young and old have a tendency to worry, which can make them rather nervous and anxious. This sensitive child can be demoralised by teasing or criticism, yet with discerning natures themselves, they can be overly critical, expecting things to be 'just so'. They can be very conscientious, seeking perfection in all they do, and fretting about inconsequential details. Parents can help them to focus on the bigger picture and reassure them that things do not always have to be perfect.

Not all Virgos are shy but their natural timidity means they prefer to stay in the background, usually avoiding being the centre of attention. Often unassuming and reticent they can lose out by being overlooked or taken for granted. It is important they are encouraged to take credit where due and to blow their own trumpets once in awhile. It may take time for these children to make friends. Virgo's natural reserve means that they do not enter into friendships lightly and this can sometimes make them seen as aloof. Once they are over the initial barriers however, others are warmed by their quiet, gentle, helpful and thoughtful character.

Eager to please, their compliant and accommodating natures make it easy for them to be taken over or overwhelmed by stronger personalities. If this is so, parents can tactfully encourage them to be discriminating with friends and to stand up for their own needs rather than acquiescing to others. Instilling these children with confidence and self-assurance will help them to achieve far more than they think.

Inquisitive and eager to learn, they will usually be early to talk and read. The pleasure they find from books means that they should be no strangers to a library. They are methodical and well organised although occasionally one finds a disorganised and untidy Virgo. Responsible when it comes to schoolwork, they are motivated to make good grades but dislike pressure and are quite happy left alone to work quietly and diligently by themselves. Dextrous with their hands, they are likely to enjoy various crafts or woodwork and have the ability and patience to master very detailed or intricate work.

Capricorn (December 22nd - January 21st)

Often a shy child, little Capricorns are cautious and practical with a sense of discipline. Preferring system and order in their lives, it should not be too difficult for the Capricorn baby to adapt to a routine. They usually respond best when they know exactly where they should be and what they should be doing. Concerned with security, these children are likely to be happiest when they feel safe and secure in their own homes.

Capricorn youngsters should not need much encouragement to clear up their rooms or their toys, as generally they like to have their things organised and neatly arranged. This goes for completing homework too. Responsible, reliable and dutiful, they often seem older than their years and are unlikely to need reminding of their commitments. Tending to err on the side of practicality, even leisure time is often spent in a practical pursuit. They are likely to choose pastimes where they can do or produce something useful and serviceable. In fact, methodical and industrious Capricorn is the builder of the Zodiac, so whether it is an empire, a home or a piece of artwork, they like to see something visible for their efforts.

Capable of considerable concentration, the typical Capricorn child is disciplined and able to do well at school. Sometimes unsure of themselves, they may doubt their abilities and feel that they have to work twice as hard as anyone else to prove themselves. Wise, thoughtful and careful in their thinking, they make steady students, often excelling in subjects such as science or mathematics. They are generally thorough and responsible, and prepared to work very hard to achieve their goals, but may need encouragement from time to time to take things less seriously and have time for fun. Their self-contained natures do not make it easy for them to express their feelings either, and their deep emotions can often go unrecognized.

Do not underestimate the willpower of these hardy little goats. Possessing huge determination and patience, whatever they set their minds to, they have the tenacity to achieve. If there is something they desire, or something they want to do, then without making a fuss or a song and dance they will quietly, steadily and deliberately work to achieve it.

The only factor likely to hold them back is their tendency to be fearful and anxious, which can make them despondent if they think they have failed in a task or not achieved what they set out to do. Heartening words from parents can soften their fears and spur them into achieving. In fact, the more encouragement the better, because timid Capricorns lack confidence and can benefit from lots of boosting up to overcome their worries and concerns.

Air Signs

Children born in air signs are thinkers; they work well with ideas and enjoy communicating with others

Gemini (May 21st - June 22nd)

Bright, alert, full of energy and fun, the Gemini child makes a delightful companion. Desperate to communicate, the Gemini baby will probably be bursting to talk, but once they do so they never seem to stop! It is unlikely that your sociable little Gemini will be content with long periods alone, as once this child is awake then everyone else will be too! Gregarious and outgoing, these little people make friends quickly and enjoy moving from one social engagement or activity to another. Chatty, talkative and friendly, it will be hard to separate them from the telephone during their teenage years.

Preferring to flit lightheartedly through life without taking things too seriously, they can find sombre situations or serious occasions difficult to handle. Although thoughtful, with a reasoned approach to life, they are not usually interested in emotional conflicts. Tending to be rational thinkers they can be unsure of their emotions. In addition to helping them discuss any worries, parents can encourage them to accept their emotions and express their feelings.

Variety is important for little Gemini, so keep in mind that this child needs to move around and to get out and about, they thrive on change. They do not like to miss out on anything and enjoy doing something, preferably involving people. Being confined for long periods creates restlessness and irritability, not to mention boredom. These curious children have a natural desire to learn, accrue new information and find out why and how. They usually make fine students, easily stimulated by books and with an innate ability to investigate facts. Inquisitive and questioning, they enjoy finding out about everything and can be quite a storehouse of information. They often end up in careers that involve some aspect of transport, a role in communications or a position in education where they can share or disperse their knowledge to others. These children are often skilled at language and expression; they may even turn into a fine linguists or articulate speakers. Their forte is written communication, and most little Geminis will enjoy writing stories and expressing themselves through the written word.

Skillful with their hands, they possess either mechanical ability or excel at craft making, although it can be a real challenge to get this child to sit quietly and work patiently at something without being distracted by something new. Parents will probably find that as they mature they change direction easily and frequently, pursuing several different areas of interest at once. The only difficulty with this is that they can scatter their energies unproductively and wise parental guidance is required to teach them how to use their time and skills more effectively.

Libra (September 23rd - October 24th)

Libra people are usually very aware of their appearance and little Libra is no exception. Conscious of how things look from an early age, they will probably have their own ideas about how they should be dressed. With a fine eye for colour and design, they enjoy art work and are creative thinkers. School and home environments which provide them with plenty of scope for literature, music or dance are ideal for them.

Libra's essence is balance, which causes them to weigh up every situation carefully. This makes decision-making difficult for them, especially when they are little and can change their minds a hundred times a day. Smart parents can help by minimizing their choices when they are very young, and then patiently encourage these children to make up their minds, starting with small things at first and without pressure.

With a dislike of conflict, the Libra child can find it hard to remain emotionally stable when surrounded by discord. Although harmony and balance is Libra's thing, this does not mean that these children are necessarily born with these characteristics inherent. To the contrary, there can be many fluctuations and extremes in their behaviour and moods whilst they are growing up. Strongly affected by what is going on around them, these youngsters function best when they are surrounded by agreeable relationships and soothing, calm atmospheres. Do not be fooled though; they may dislike arguments, but they are prepared to fight their corner with a well reasoned and justifiable point of view. They like nothing more than a debate, which combined with their very persuasive manner means that they can charm the birds from the trees. Captivating parents and subtlety influencing them around to their way of thinking is their forte!

Fair minded Librans are strongly motivated by justice, so parents of these children can expect to hear often the words, "It is not fair!' This diplomatic little peace maker is skilled at mending squabbles between friends and bringing unity and conciliation to opposing groups. Joining the debating team at school is a good move. They have a natural appreciation for the differing views and opinions of others and can become skilled negotiators, helping to bring solutions that suit both sides. Sometimes though the over cooperative child can become a 'people pleaser', adjusting too much to others. Adopting the maxim 'peace at any price', they can find themselves succumbing to stronger personalities, swaying to their opinions and doing things that perhaps were not in accordance with their own wishes. Parents can assist these children by encouraging them to be true to their selves, to speak up about their own ideas and form their own values.

Aquarius (January 21st - February 19th)

Typically friendly and sociable, this child enjoys nothing more than having many different acquaintances to mix with. True little humanitarians, they are interested in and enjoy the company of other children, although they do need space and time alone. Aquarians often possess an inborn fear of alienation which can make them feel lonely or rejected. In truth they are very self-reliant, with reserved natures which can sometimes separate them from others because they can be perceived as aloof or detached. Generally this is a self-sufficient child; uncomfortable with heavy emotional demands made on them, they are unlikely to reveal their closest feelings. Intensely independent, with a dislike of being pinned down, any possessiveness or attempt to inhibit their freedom does not sit well with this little free spirit.

These children march to their own tune, so do not expect young ones to fit in with your routine or conform to a pattern or structure. Neither is it easy to guide them as one never knows exactly what to expect with an Aquarian child, which can make life exciting! Although the Aquarian can be traditional, they are often different, unpredictable, changeable, sometimes erratic and likely to push the parental boundaries. In fact, this type does not take kindly to heavy discipline or restrictive parental rules. The more conservative Aquarian may need encouragement to believe in themselves, express their uniqueness and individuality and follow their own path, but the extreme type can be a rebellious non-conformer.

These children are very inquisitive and like to understand how everything works. Their quick minds are constantly active, as if they seem to be fired by some electrical charge! Busy thinking and planning, they are usually at home in the world of concepts and thought, so they should not have a problem with school work. This is the theory, but they can often be 'lost in a fog', or in a world of their own. Easily distracted, they can be absent minded, inattentive or non-committal in the classroom. Appreciating a wide variety of stimulating experiences, this helps to inspire their inventive minds with ingenious, original ideas.

It is often the Aquarian principles, ideas or belief systems that are contrary to or in opposition to the opinion of the masses, so do not expect this child to agree with your values especially when they are teenagers. In addition to having some very alternative ideas of their own, they can be totally resistant and stubbornly inflexible to the ideas of others. Since they are mostly inclined to mental activity, parents need to encourage them to join in sporting activities as they are not usually very physically active.

Water Signs

The final part of this series discusses the Astrological signs of the Water element; Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Children born in Water signs are sensitive and impressionable, yet often restless. The following descriptions are based on the typical qualities of each Sun sign, but this is modified by other planetary factors at the time of birth.

Cancer (June 22nd - July 23rd)

This water baby is a sensitive little soul; often awash with emotions they are not one to hold back the tears. Living in a world of feelings, these children feel everything very deeply and can fluctuate widely in their moods. They acutely sense and intuitively pick up impressions and insights, but being highly aware of rejection or hurts, they can imagine the worst. Very responsive to others, their sensitivity means that they can take what others say to heart, responding moodily and reacting defensively when they sense (usually without foundation), that they are under threat or attack. Their approach to life is cautious, and their worries are very real to them, so it is advisable for parents to take their emotions seriously and sympathetically.

Cancer usually remembers everything, especially any past hurts, wounded feelings or upsetting experiences. Their tendency to hang onto, keep alive and drag these things into adulthood is not usually helpful! When this little crab broods on something or withdraws into themselves, try to prise them out of their shells by being understanding and helping them not to dwell on things.

Your Cancerian youngster is likely to have a very fertile imagination, which can have both positive and negative implications. Tending to worry unnecessarily, their thoughts can trouble them, which can turn them into anxious and fearful little people. Large doses of parental reassurance and encouragement will help to allay their fears and doubts. On the other hand, their wonderful vivid, imaginations will benefit from constructive assistance, to help make their ideas come alive and workable.

These perceptive little people will surprise you with their caring insights and understanding of your feelings or of a situation. They are thoughtful with family and friends and their naturally loving natures make it easy for them to care for pets, plants or their own little patch of garden. Deeply sentimental, they will enjoy keeping photographs of close family or friends. They may take pleasure in assembling a 'keepsake box' for all those little bits and pieces of memorabilia or putting together a scrap book of their trips, holidays, favourite times or adventures. A natural collector and sometimes a downright hoarder, this little crab will probably not return from holiday without some memories - perhaps a shell collection!

These children are strongly affected by their childhoods, so it is essential that their home life is content and secure. Undoubtedly, there are Cancer children who are sent away to boarding school, but this would not be an easy environment for this home-loving child to adjust to. Strongly disciplinarian school regimes are not for them either: they need supportive environments where their confidence is boosted and their skills and talents are nurtured and encouraged.

Scorpio (Oct 24th - November 22nd)

Little Scorpio may be a water baby but there is certainly nothing wishy-washy about this child! Their charismatic natures often belie the force and power of their personalities. Not for the soft or faint-hearted parent, they can test a parent's patience no end! Their tremendous will-power, together with their great strength of mind, needs firm guidance and discipline, otherwise this child will be calling the shots.

Hugely determined with strong resolve, they are unlikely to shy away from confrontation. They usually know what they want, how to get it, and they are prepared to put up with any sort of resistance in order to do so. They like to win, so parents need to stand firm and not back down. These children do not give up easily and will wear you down, until they achieve what they want. Battling with a Scorpio will probably leave you feeling like a piece of limp lettuce but in contrast they will have enjoyed the challenge of the battle!

Despite being adept at keeping their feelings hidden from others, parents will learn firsthand of the intense natures that lay beneath their calm façades. Often consumed by their deep feelings, and overwhelmed by their passionate emotions, little Scorpios will benefit from parents who understand this and can help them to deal with and find outlets for these ardent emotions. Show these children lots of love (especially if there are times when they evoke strong feelings to the contrary within you), otherwise some types may resort to channeling their intense pent-up feelings into revenge, anger or bitterness when they are older.

These children need privacy; although secretive about their own thoughts they can be expert at wheedling out everyone else's secrets. They like to know what is going on around them, to be in control of a situation and if possible to have the upper hand. With penetrating and curious minds, these little ones are sharp and aware; they do not miss a trick, hence they make good students. Their instincts are spot on, enabling them to have insights into a person or understanding of a situation long before parents have 'cottoned on'. Do not be surprised how easily they can read your personality. Their uncanny knack of perception means they know exactly how you tick, and just how to maneuver you into a position of vulnerability if they wish!

Capable of great tenderness and understanding, these children have enormous loyalty toward loved ones and friends. Together with their immense courage, tenacity and fighting spirit they will doggedly battle toward their goals or for a worthwhile cause.

Pisces (February 19th - March 21st)

These babies can have a mystical, dreamy look about them, as if they come from a distant faraway, fantasy world. In truth that is where these children would prefer to be, rather than in the cruel, insensitive world we live in. They are peaceful, gentle, compassionate and understanding, but often with their heads in the clouds they can be reluctant to face reality and concern themselves with the harsh facts and down to earth practicalities of everyday life. Who can blame them?

In order to help them to deal with reality, it helps little Pisces people to have a sanctuary where they can withdraw from time to time into their own world, and escape from everyday things. They also need to have adequate outlets for their imaginations. Usually creative, artistic or musical, they also enjoy poetry, story telling or dancing. Theatrical productions, films, and anything that is enchanting, magical or illusionary, can give them the opportunity to lose themselves safely and temporarily in a different world. In addition to finding enjoyment from watching performances, they can spend a lot of their time acting, pretending, or playing make-believe themselves.

Not usually keen on discipline or routine, parents will need to be quite canny to catch these little fishes and instill some sort of order before they slip through the net. Naturally charming, but typically elusive and evasive, they can easily be distracted and would rather avoid commitment and responsibility. Their easy-going personalities prefer the freedom of going with the flow and responding to each moment as it takes them. Despite giving the appearance that they live in a dream world, they have minds that soak up information like sponges. Yet with their own way of doing things, they are best suited to school environments that foster their uniqueness and sense of play and imagination without harsh strict schedules. Easily relating to the intangible, they posses the ability to instinctively grasp abstract theories, although they can sometimes find it difficult to translate their ideas into rational words.

These little folk are so sensitive and empathetic; they can take on another's feelings without realizing it is affecting them or that in fact it has nothing to do with them. This together with their gentle natures, makes it is easy for them to be taken advantage of or to do things that are not always to their benefit. Parents should encourage these children to be discriminating in their choice of friends and help them to work at reinforcing their boundaries in order to protect themselves from stronger personalities.
